Our favorite option for any play area is a rubber tile surface from SofSurfaces.com.  Perfect when installing over a preexisting concrete or asphalt surface and very close to maintenance free, our rubber tiles are warranted for ten years!  We like the “green” aspect of the recycled content in the product and impact attenuation that exceeds minimum standards by 25% or more.  The tile surface can be easily installed perfectly even with the surrounding grade making ADA access issues a thing of the past.  The “unitary” or solid surface means nasty things can't get lost in the play area.  With a carefully installed concrete subsurface, drainage issues are also permanently eliminated.  Maintenance is a visual inspection and a quick brush off with a broom or leaf blower to keep dirt out of the seams and that's it.  A quick look around the SofSurfaces.com web site shows endless color choices and fun patterns developed for the tiles.

Delivery:  Your rubber tile shipment arrives on pallets up to 2000 lbs.  Whoever is responsible for receiving the shipment will need to have a pallet jack and forklift or similar equipment capable of handling these pallets.

Installation:  We prefer to install tiles over asphalt or concrete.  Our manufacturer suggests that a compacted stone sub surface is acceptable, but at KIDSAFE we'd rather not.  Installing a simple rectangular area without structures present is not terribly difficult and we would be glad to talk you through it.  A large space or one involving cutting the tiles around existing play equipment can be quite a challenge to do successfully, and KIDSAFE would rather do it for you!

Maintenance:  The rubber tile surface needs to be kept CLEAN.  A hose, leaf blower or pressure washer does the trick.  A quick visual inspection to eliminate foreign objects and you're done.

We just don't think there is a better option for appearance, compliance and maintenance than a rubber tile safety surface with a concrete or asphalt sub-base.  We have installed rubber tile and concrete surfaces under and around existing equipment to the great delight of the owners and users.  Especially for new construction, do it full out and go with this option!  You'll be so glad you did.
